Dare to Dance: An Artist’s Interpretation of Joy...
I am thrilled to announce an exciting three part opportunity for Art Quilters!

I have been asked to curate a collection of 35 Virginia quilts and quilt makers that will debut in May 2013. The exhibit will be titled, Dare to Dance: An Artist’s Interpretation of Joy.... Each artist is asked to create an 18 x 30 inch small art quilt. These will be on display in the gallery at the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory in Manassas from 2 May – 13 June of 2013.

I LOVE this challenge and asked Schiffer publishing if they would be interested in publishing this collection if we expanded the project to include 100 - 150 (or more) artists from all over the country. They are very excited about this project and the manuscript is scheduled to be published in Spring 2014. It will further showcase the abundance of talent in today’s quilt world. Like my first book, Designs in Art Quilts (coming in Spring 2013), I envision a positive uplifting manuscript that provides creative encouragement and inspiration to the Art Quilt community.

50-75 of the quilts from the Dare to Dance book will be selected to travel in 2014 and 2015. This collection of quilts will debut at The Lancaster Quilt Show in March 2014 and is tentatively scheduled to be on display at The Quilter’s Hall of Fame in Fall 2014. Other venues will be announced soon. Please note that you may choose to only submit your quilt for the manuscript and decline the exhibit opportunities. Artists may submit more than one quilt.

I am looking for professional quality photography of your art quilt and a 150-200 word artist statement. (details on the submissions requirements page). DO NOT send me your actual quilt with your initial submission. All materials submitted will be juried by a panel of award winning quilters and art collectors. Notification of the panel’s decision will be sent on or before March 15, 2013. Shipping information will be provided at the time of acceptance if your quilt will be included in the Virginia quilt exhibit and/or the 2014 traveling collection.

This is a great opportunity to participate in an exciting challenge and introduce your current work to a national audience. Submission and inclusion are absolutely free. Your only cost for participation is time, creative writing, and professional-level photography. Contributors will be credited with the photo captions; each artist will provide an artist statement; and contact information will be clearly displayed.

If you are interested, please review the information found in the attached Submission Requirements page. All materials need to be submitted to the address below, on or before 15 February 2013.

I look forward to working with each of you.
